Jev vs ad bidding systems

An ad bidding system solves allocation and price under latency SLOs. Jev is a decision model with vendor rate limits (models page: 1,200 RPM / 250k tokens per second — can change). It is not an exchange.

Unofficial. Ads usecases on this site are decision workflows around creative/policy, not a bidder. docs.typesafe.ai.

Comparison scope

Brand-safety text, landing-page claim checks, and “does this creative match the brief” can be Jev questions. Clearing price, pacing, and frequency cap cannot.

Decision quality and control

If you call Jev on the bid path you will miss SLOs and 429. Precompute decisions for creatives and cache. Online bidding stays numeric.

Integration trade-offs

Offline/async: score creatives and pages. Cache allow/deny. Bidder reads the cache. Re-score on edit, not on every bid.

TypeSafe’s public models page lists jev-1.13 at $0.042 per million input tokens with output tokens free — a vendor claim, not a jev.pro measurement. Confirm on the models page before you bid.

Jev is a brand-safety/preflight worker. The bidder remains the bidder.

Preflight creatives, never the bid

An ad bidding system solves allocation and price under latency SLOs. Jev is a decision model with vendor rate limits (models page: 1,200 RPM / 250k tokens per second — can change). It is not an exchange. Sketch: offline/async worker scores creatives and landing-page text (Noul/Choice on house policy) on pinned jev-1.13.0 → cache allow/deny → bidder reads the cache on the bid path. Re-score on edit, not on every impression. Clearing price, pacing, and frequency cap stay numeric.

$0.042 / M input is a vendor claim. Calling Jev on the bid path will miss SLOs and 429. Do not use Score to invent a dollar bid (numeric jaggedness). Jev does not generate the creative. Third-party brand-safety vendors stay for attested categories; Jev for house rules.

How a “smart bidder” 429s the auction

When not to use Jev here

Do not use Jev to price, rank, or allocate impressions. Do not put it on the microsecond bid path. Prefer the bidding stack + cached policy bits. Use Jev for language policy on creatives or landing pages, scored off the auction clock.

If your exchange SLA is milliseconds, the only honest Jev shape is a cache key on creative_id (and maybe landing_url_hash). Anything else is a landscape problem wearing a model pin.

FAQ

Can Jev set a bid? Do not use Score to invent a dollar bid (numeric jaggedness).

Third-party brand-safety vendors? Keep them for attested categories; Jev for house rules.

Re-score every bid request? No. Cache on creative id. Re-score on edit. The auction cannot wait on jev-1.13.0.
