Jev versus healthcare protocols: a practical comparison

Healthcare protocols (order sets, triage ESI, nursing pathways) are clinical governance. Jev is a general decision model. It is not a medical device and this page is not clinical advice.

Independent unofficial warning more than a bake-off. Official input: text only. PHI handling is your BAA/DPA problem — read TypeSafe Legal, not us. docs.typesafe.ai.

Comparison scope

Possible admin uses if counsel agrees: route a portal message to billing vs scheduling using a closed Choice. Not: diagnose, dose, or override a protocol.

Criteria that decide the architecture

Axis Jev (System One) Healthcare protocols
Diagnosis / treatment Out of scope Wins (clinician + protocol)
Admin inbox routing Possible with abstain Rules + humans
Images / DICOM Not accepted PACS / specialists
Liability Yours Yours

Decision quality and control

Schema-safe ≠ clinically correct. A confident wrong route can still harm. Default to human.

Integration trade-offs

If you proceed at all: minimize PHI, pin the model, fail to clinician, log traces, never auto-prescribe. Prefer on-prem/VPC channels your security team approved.

TypeSafe’s public models page lists jev-1.13 at $0.042 per million input tokens with output tokens free — a vendor claim, not a jev.pro measurement. Confirm on the models page before you bid.

When each approach fits

Prefer Healthcare protocols when

Protocols and clinicians are the product. Jev is at most an admin pre-router.

FAQ

Can Jev read labs as numbers? Compare numbers in code. Do not ask the model which value is higher.

Is this suitable for patient-facing triage? We do not recommend it. Talk to clinicians and counsel.
