Jev versus multi-model routing: a practical comparison

Multi-model routing sends easy traffic to a cheap LLM and hard traffic to a careful one. Jev can be the classifier that picks the route (TypeSafe intent-routing pattern; LangChain has published harness hooks). Jev is not the HTTP load balancer.

Unofficial. LangChain post numbers remain vendor-reported. docs.typesafe.ai.

Comparison scope

If you already have a router (semantic cache + rules), Jev can replace the fuzzy middle. If you have no fleet of models, you do not need this page yet — see single-model serving.

Criteria that decide the architecture

Axis Jev (System One) Multi-model routing
Pick model / tool Choice + “needs any model?” Noul Rules / embeddings
Run the LLM No The fleet
Cache Your cache Your cache
Door ids Do not mix channel names Your catalog

Decision quality and control

A router that is wrong in both directions wastes money and quality. Eval on which model was chosen, not just task accuracy after the fact.

Integration trade-offs

Jev Choice over {cheap, strong, tools, abstain} → your gateway. Pin Jev. Treat LangChain middleware as optional glue (harness).

TypeSafe’s public models page lists jev-1.13 at $0.042 per million input tokens with output tokens free — a vendor claim, not a jev.pro measurement. Confirm on the models page before you bid.

When each approach fits

Prefer Multi-model routing when

Jev routes; models act; code enforces spend caps. Not a clone of rival router IA.

FAQ

Is Jev one of the models being routed to? Usually Jev is the router, not a chat destination.

OpenRouter vs Jev router? OpenRouter is a door/catalog. Jev can decide whether to call a catalog model.
