Freeze your eval harness before you trust a local Jev — JEV Brief · Sep 22
Nothing TypeSafe-official moved the contract today. The costly miss on a quiet desk is still the same: swapping a production pin for a GitHub “drop-in” before you can prove agreement on your questions. If you only have four minutes, lock the eval harness, pin jev-1.13.0, then scan Top Repos.
- Freeze the harness first. Keep a fixed set of your Choice / Score / Noul questions — support triage, tool routing, risk gates — with expected labels and a pass bar. Run it before every vendor or local swap. A README agreement number is not your harness.
- Pin a versioned id. Prefer
jev-1.13.0(or the dated pin you already staged) overjev-latestin anything that auto-acts. On OSS servers, pin the named checkpoint the same way. Floating aliases hide drift. - Treat local as residency, not a free upgrade. Data that must not leave the VPC is a real reason to try Kev, von, NanoJev, or jevlike. Sub-15 ms demos and star counts are not. Clones copy the API shape (state + typed questions → option probabilities); they do not copy TypeSafe’s closed weights, RLCD data, or production calibration.
- Schema-safe ≠ correct. A constrained Choice still picks the wrong department; it just cannot invent a fourth one. Keep arithmetic and irreversible side effects in code, not in the model head.
