Jev operating model

An operating model for Jev is how a team ships typed decisions without turning Playground into production. It is not TypeSafe’s org chart and not a consulting framework. Independent. docs.typesafe.ai.

Independent angle (cover, do not clone)

Win delta: RACI on questions/floors/traces plus a weekly operate cadence. We do not clone a rival “build with System One” narrative or a Gartner operating-model page.

Question and context

System One answers are cheap to call and expensive to govern if nobody owns criteria edits. Official agent-skill / how-to guidance: humans edit criteria. Make that a required reviewer, not a suggestion.

Core concepts

Workstream Owns Does not own
Question pack Product + a named reviewer Live-edit in an undocumented console
Floors / τ Risk or ops with eval evidence Copy-pasting 0.9 from a blog
Door + pin Platform Mixing marketplace ids silently
Traces + gold Data / platform Hoping TypeSafe stores your labels
Irreversible actions App owners “The model said so”

Cadence:

  1. PR on instructions / criteria / floors (same as application code).
  2. Staging replay of gold on the pinned id.
  3. Prod promote the triple (sha, pin, door).
  4. Weekly sample of handoffs → gold (feedback guide).
  5. Abort on alias drift, 422 spike, or criteria hotfix without replay.

Practical approach

Write the fail-closed default before the happy path: if POST /v1/systemone 529s, what does the user see? If you cannot answer, you do not have an operating model — you have a demo.

Link roles on team roles and metrics on success metrics. Checklists: design, implementation, launch.

Risks and trade-offs

A heavy RACI on a three-person startup is parody. Keep the minimum: one human for criteria, one pin, one gold file, one abort owner. Enterprises that skip change control will still have SoD theater — just not for the model that routes money.

Vendor rate limits (models page) can change; do not treat a blog reprint as a contract.

FAQ

Does TypeSafe host our operating model? No. You run questions, traces, and floors. They host the model.

Can product edit criteria in production? Only if that edit is a reviewed release. Live-tweaking floors is how silent false-allows ship.

Where is the weekly loop written down? Playbook and best practices.
